What does all that mean?
If your goal is to have a centralized mail system with a centralized address book, shared
scheduling, shared contacts and collaboration features, select
Microsoft Exchange 2003. Using RPC over
HTTP allows users to securely synchronize there Outlook 2003 client from
most internet connections. We offer hosted as well as managed
solutions tailored to your business needs. Using hosted Exchange
requires that all client PC's at least use Windows XP with service pack
2 and Outlook 2003. Mac OS X and Entourage is also supported. POP3 email: This is the
most commonly used type of email account. All messages are
initially stored on the server and downloaded to the work station prior
viewing. Generally the messages are removed from the server after
they are downloaded. This type of email is useful for non-mission
critical requirements as well as single computer users.
IMAP4 email:
If you want messaging with a centralized depository for all mailboxes, select IMAP
which stores all messages on our servers. Users are able to view
the same inbox content from multiply machines or via the web mail
interface. Should your replace your computer simply configure your
account and all messages will be downloaded again. IMAP also
allows shared access to mailboxes. This is useful for environments
where a mailbox like customerservice@domain.com has to be accessed by several people
simultaneously or the assistant requires access to the managers
mailbox for review and scheduling purposes.
All email accounts include sophisticated antivirus scanning utilizing
several scan engines. All messages sent and received by the server
are archived for 45 days minimum. Optionally you can
keep your inbox free of unwanted Spam
using state of the art SPAM filtering with user customizable whitelist
using SpamAssassin.
If you want basic email solely through a browser with no additional
software required, select web-based email.
